How to activate your copy of Steganos software.
For the activation (same for the trial and the full version) it is necessary from generation 2008 on that your PC has a working internet connection. After entering the valid serial number the Steganos application "activation.exe" will download a personal certificate from our server and save it on your PC. Please ensure that your possibly installed firewall does not hinder this action.It is not possible to activate and/or use the software without a working internet connection. Therefore the internet connection is mentioned as a necessary system requirement from generation 2008 on.
If you have problems with the activation, we sincerely apologise. We recommend setting the firewall just for the activation to low level or "accepting all" and therewith enabling the activation. Switching off or/and deactivating the firewall will terminate only the user interface, however the rules as well as the driver of the firewall will not be concerned/still be active.
Normally you can finish some blockings by adapting the rules of your firewall. Herefore please consult the help/support of your firewall.
Steganos Personal Firewall 7/2006:
Doubleclick on the firewall icon in the Windows Systray. Right in the main menu you find the scroll bar, which normally should be set to "middle". Switch this one before entering the serial number on "Allow all", then immediately after the successful activation back to "middle" level.
For checking the application rules, please click on Service -> Application rules in the main menu of the firewall and search there for the rule of the activation.exe. In case you find a rule indicating a blocking of the internet connection for the activation.exe, please chose this rule and click on Change. After the performed change, please confirm it by clicking OK.
Steganos Internet Security 2007:
Doubleclick on the program icon in the windows systray, then on Settings -> Personal Firewall. Here you will also find a scroll bar, which should be switched to allow all before entering the serial number. Please do not forget so switch the scroll bar back to middle/trainingsmode level after the successful activation of your product.
For checking the application rules, please click on Settings next to the scroll bar and change to the register Application Rules. When finding a rule indicating the blocked internet access for the activation.exe, please adapt the rule by clicking on Change. After the performed change, please confirm the rule by clicking OK.
How exactly is the Activation working?
From the technical point of view, the application "activation.exe" creates a http-request to our server and transfers the entered serial number as parameter. Our server compares the submitted serial number with out database and delivers the personal certificate back for downloading. This certificate will be stored on your PC automatically and the product is activated. In case the certificate gets lost at a later time, the software will start the activation process anew upon the next start of the software. You may perform 5 activations/download attempts, after that the certificate will be "blocked" for security reasons. In this case we kindly ask you to get in touch with our customer service .

Information regarding privacy protection: No other data than your serial number will be submitted.
