Frequently Asked Questions
Are the generated passwords secure?
Yes. The random numbers come from crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographically secure random source – not from Math.random. Generation happens entirely on your device; no password is sent to us or stored.
How long should a password be?
At least 16 characters if you do not have to type it yourself. Every extra character multiplies the effort needed to brute force it – length matters more than exotic symbols. For logins you enter by hand often, 20 characters are a good compromise.
Do I need a separate password for every service?
Yes, that is the single most important rule. If one provider is breached, attackers automatically try the stolen credentials on other services. One reused password turns somebody else's breach into your problem.
How am I supposed to remember that many passwords?
You are not supposed to – that is what password managers are for. You remember a single strong master password, everything else sits encrypted in the vault and is filled in automatically. Steganos Password Manager also syncs it to your smartphone and tablet if you want.
